Continuing from the previous post of aligning with Universal Powers for effective magickal practices…….

In this post I will be discussing the ^7th of the Sacred Seven (in no particular order) that I have been mentioning in the previous posts.

Here I will be talking about the final planet of the sacred seven and not in that order, the planet Mercury. Ruling over Gemini and Virgo it is the planet that influences the intellect and of communication and therefore the element of air.

Mercury the planet is androgynous and neutral, it is neither masculine nor feminine, neither positive nor negative, taking on the qualities of whatever aspects it comes into contact with.

The God

In the Ancient Roman World Mercury was the equivalent of the Greek God Hermes. The swift-footed messenger God traversed between the upper and lower worlds and his origins can be traced back as far as 13^th– 15^th Century BCE.

The many associations of Mercury include that of fertility, communication that include writing, messengers, trade, luck, and thievery. He was the patron saint of merchants, business people that were involved in all types of trade. The staff of Hermes, the Kerykeion is recognized as a symbol of trade and commerce and not that of medicine.

As the God of Medicine Aesculapius and His Rod is attributed to the arts of health and healing.

In the ancient Egyptian world he was connected to Thoth that is also connected with communication and responsible for writing the Emerald Tablet.

Astrology

Due to Mercury’s speedy elliptical orbit, Mercury often appears to be going backwards, with frequent retrograde motions of about 3-4 every year. The good news is that these retrogrades are short lived, the bad news is that when they are in that motion they can at times wreak havoc in your life. Caution in signing contracts, breakdown in communication, avoid surgery, avoid travel, heightened anger, frustration, anxiety and of course the list of all your insecurities goes on. Now the majority of the time such retrogrades go unnoticed, that is until something happens in your life, then there is always Mercury retrograde if it does.

Spell Against Mercury Retrograde

If you are familiar with spell work you can try this to draw the positive aspects of Mercury during its retrograde. It encourages harmony, balance, protection and healing is such tumultuous times.

Spell work-

1. Purple candle
2. Anointed with frankincense
3. Surround with your choice of crystals and herbs from the magickal correspondences above
4. Light the candle and say:

‘My mind is a fortress, backwards Mercury, shall cause no deceit, nor damage. The light and stones shall save me’.

5. When the candle has burned all the way down, and extinguished itself, take the stones, place them in a mojo bag, and carry with you as long as Mercury stays in retrograde.

Below is a beautiful hymn or prayer to the great God Mercury- Hermes. Use this if you want to invoke the energy of Mercury- Hermes, use the planetary magickal correspondences for extra guidance and remember as with any spell work to understand, observe and respect the energies that you are working and drawing from and with.

Zodiac candle– A candle representing ‘your intent in your astrological house’                            (please refer to the chart below)                                                                                   Note: if you do not have a colour representing your intent in the candle please just inscribe on the candle the symbol of your zodiac

Orange candle– to represent change

Dark or black candle– to protect against and send away ill luck

Essential oil of your choice: such as rosemary, thyme, frankincense.                             Note: if you don’t have any essential oils you can use olive oil.

Incense of your choice- to burn before, during and after the ritual. Please light this while you are preparing your sacred space to neutralize the energy.

Note: Pillar candles or smaller round candles are required in order to allow them to burn within a reasonable time. The candles need to burn all the way. If there is any wax left, please ensure you give this to the Great Mother by placing in the earth. (Natural candle wax is best for this).

Please use this time to master the frequency of tuning into your spiritual practice to instigate the changes necessary for your development as a magical practitioner.

During the Solstice that is coming up in the next week or so, the veil will be thin, allowing better communication between the worlds. Doing this work during this full moon will allow your frequency to better shift to the energies of the Great Mother and Father.

 

Your Sacred Space:

Take care to prepare your sacred space before the ritual, if you are unable to burn incense, please use the power of intention such as a white light showering you and your surroundings. Ensure that you have all that you need at hand. The more prepared you are, the more effective the spell. Go through the check list of things that you need above, do this just before the ritual begins.

You can look in your astrological house and decorate your space with the colours representing the intent that you would like to illuminate and instigate change.

Decorate your altar with sprigs of Rosemary for extra protection.

 

The Ritual Explained:

Tonight we will be honoring the Great Goddess of the Strawberry (June) full moon. Elementally the strawberry is linked to water and connected with Venus, Freya and Aphrodite making it appropriate for out transformation.

MONDAY is the day of the MOON- this will increase the energy of the spell work for the Full Moon Ritual.

The moon is positioned at 25 Degrees in Sagittarius. This brings a dynamic and expanding approach to our spiritual practice in our lives helping us to propel ourselves forward.

Ruled by Jupiter this energy of change and expansion is magnified, so it’s a wonderful time to make the most of it.

Stationary Neptune will become retrograde after this time magnifying the planets power. This makes it a wonderful time to concentrate on a devotion greater than yourself.

Protect us Great Mother Selene and Sun God Apollo for all gathered here and those afar who are unable to be with us. Allow no negative energy to touch us, to harm us and that nothing we call upon will harm us and others.

Dark, Black candle– This is to neutralize bad energy, move any obstacles, clear away any bad luck. Visualize being protected and secure at all times, moving any obstacles that will hinder your progress.

Success Witch Spell

To bring the energy of success into your life, try out this beginner magic witch spell.

 

What you will need for this spell are a yellow votive candle, a candle holder or plate, a knife or something to carve with, and a lighter or matches. This spell is best to do during a full, new, or waxing moon, but not a waning moon.

 

Candle magic is great because there are many ways to personalize the spells as you can get all different kinds of candles with different colors, tones, shapes, and sizes. You can also get candles with different symbols or shapes on them, or you can carve these in yourself.

 

1. Cast your circle.

 

2. Take your candle and carve a symbol of success into the side. The symbol is up to you and can be whatever you feel like represents success to you. You can use a rune, a money sign, or some other symbol relating to success, as long as it has meaning to you.

 

3. Ignite your candle, and focus on the flame.

 

4. Visualize yourself successful. Feel how you would feel as if you were already successful. Visualize as much detail as you can using all of your senses. Feel the happiness and joy you have from being successful. Make yourself believe that you are currently successful and you have achieved the level of success that you want.

 

5. Focus on the flame, watching it as you are visualizing this feeling of success.

 

6. When you are ready, dismantle your circle, but leave the candle burning. Let the candle burn until it goes out on its own. Make sure you don’t leave the candle alone though and accidentally cause a fire.

 

7. When the wax has cooled off after the flame goes out, take the wax and put it somewhere safe, in a bag or another container.

 

8. As often as you can, tell the universe and yourself that “I am successful. I am worthy. I am powerful.”
