Travel Altars

Travel Altars can be so much fun to put together.  The smaller the more challenging. This is where creativity meets imagination.

I have created a couple for various travel trips. The one here is what I take with me when I travel interstate. I use this on my actualy journey.

Here are a couple of tips I have found useful in starting one up.

A small container to put your alrar tools into. I have chosen a small tin that housed incense i picked up from my travels.

In the tin I have included my essentials to set up my sacred space.

It includes:

A miniture wand from primrose stalk with planetary and elemental symbols to represent air

A feather to represent air

A tiny jar of frankincense resin

A tiny bottle of sacred oil

A calcite crystal to represent earth

A shell to represent water

Candle to represent fire

A seraphinite egg for the Goddess

A lavander skull for the God

A Beatle wing

A compass for gauging direction

A charm bracelet with the Goddess, trinity, pentacle, heart and citrine stone.

An altar cloth

A tiny sage bundle

And an elemental invocation prayer.

Remember as this is an actual altar……

It’s important that you consecrate all your equipment to be used.

It can be a great deal of fun to challenge yourself and see how much you can fit in such a small space.  Be innovative, creative and versatile.  This is also a great idea if you need to keep your spiritual path ‘low’.

One Way to Make Your Own Besom Using Branches and Sticks

I suggest gathering these under a full or waxing Moon phase as they will hold more helpful energy. Your Besom can also be used to sweep out the negativity in your sacred place and/or wherever you are going to cast a circle. Remember to ask the tree you get your branch and sticks from even if they are laying on the ground no longer attached to the tree. It is always better to take what you need from a tree or shrub off of the ground beneath it rather than cutting pieces off the tree or shrub. Get a branch about 3 to 4 inches little taller then you are. Gather good size bunch of unstift smaller branches, I have found getting the sticks from under a shrub or pine tree make the best sweeping part of the Besom, if possible the size difference in them should be no more the approximately 2 inches in size. After gathering the branch and sticks remember to thank the tree for the parts it has given you and to leave an offering such as some water out of a container you have drank from. You need a ball of natural thin twine or some type of undryed vine. Tie the twine or vine to the branch making sure it is tight and will not slip off (you may want to by an angular cut about 4 to 5 inch up from the bottom of the branch to slip this twine or vine when securing it. (The size you have at the bottom of your Besom made from the twigs is up to you. Usually doing 2 to 4 layers of sticks make a good size Besom. Lay your first stick against the branch pull the twine or vine around the stick as tightly as you can, continue doing this until you have made you first layer of sticks pull the twine or vine in the opposite direction the you have been placing the in a tightly as possible and tie it off but do not cut the twine or vine. For the next layer you will follow the same instruction except lay the sticks in the opposite direction from the first layer. The third layer will go in the same direction as the first layer and the fourth layer goes in the same direction as the second layer. To help ensure you sticks stay secure to the branch at the end of each layer of sticks pour white glue over the sticks and twine or vine and make sure it gets down to the branch. If you want you can even put glue on the branch as you lay each first layer stick. Let each layer of sticks dry for approximately 24 hours before adding the next layer. When you have done the last layer and have used glue to help hold it together let the entire Besom dry a minimum of 72 hours before using it.

Imbolc Charm Bags

Creating seasonal charms is one of my favorite types of spell work.  You can generally make them from things you may already have on hand, or easily pick up at your local craft and nursery stores. The best ingredients are from my random collectables I have gathered from Nature Herself.

Spells crafted at this time of the year focus new beginnings, fresh starts and new growth. Think of it as the New Moon Phase. Ostara is like the waxing moon where you take action and Beltane is the time you see the manifestation, so you can compare this to the Full moon phase.

Set Your Intention

So before we start crafting the Charm bag for Imbolc let’s set our intention-

You can either choose a specific project or goal you want to manifest or you can focus on general new beginnings. For a specific goal, I would recommend adding at least one or two elements to these ingredients to give the spell focus.

Ingredients

  • Small piece of clear quartz, preferably charged at the new moon
  • Pine needles- purification
  • Cinnamon sticks- power
  • Nettles- strength in overcoming obstacles
  • Daffodil petals- fertility
  • Dandelion puffs – making wishes come true
  • White muslin or sheer sachet to place the ingredients in

Method

  1. Light a couple of white candles, or one of your favorite scented candles
  2. Take the pine needles in your hands and rub them to release the scent. Sprinkle the pine needles in the bag and say: “I cleanse and bless this spell, home and hearth”. I also like to put a couple of drops of fir pine essential oil in.
  3. Place the cinnamon stick and quartz in bag and say: “To lend power to this spell”.
  4. Place the daffodil petals in the bag and say: “To create a fresh start and a fertile beginning”
  5. Sprinkle the Nettles and say: “ This is to overcome obstacles on my path to realization of manifesting my intentions”
  6. Now tie the bag and place somewhere such as your lingerie drawer or our car glove compartment.

The above ingredients is just a sample of the endless possibilities that are accessible to you. It depends on your intentions. Rose quarts for love and friendship, Ginger root for fire and power, violet for protection, you get the gist.  Remember to research your ingredients and understand that their energy represents your intention needed.

Continuation of the story ….

I met my girlfriend when she facebooked me and asked about the rumors of me being transgender. As we talked more and more she said she wouldnt mind dating a transgender  person if I was interested so we got to know one another and she invited me to Indy Pagan Day where her coven was putting on a ritual.  It sounded like a good time and I was exploring alternate religions so I went out and attended the event and also attended her ritual.  I enjoyed the pomp and circumstance of the ritual  coming from a Catholic background and it increased my interest in pagan holidays and esbats.  We talked later and I let her know I would be willing to attend another ritual as they did most of their rituals publicly if her.

The next open ritual that they had was Samain and I was hooked, we attended the ritual I enjoyed myself as far as the learning process went and enjoyed the other people in the group.  After this ritual though things started going south for me and the girlfriend and we broke up right before Yule and because of this I only attended one ritual with her coven.  At the time I was hoping to continue the process with her coven but as the timed passed I saw that this was not going to be possible because of the drama.

This caused me to explore other options for my spirituality and I found an online coven to belong to for my education and a guild in a different city for my socialization.  I still do almost nothing witchy in Indianapolis, Indiana because I do not want to run the chance of running into my ex girlfriend.

I have written before on the differences between a guild and a coven and would be more than willing to answer questions in either area.  I will also take question on my transgender journey.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day, sun has come out here, and it is fairly warm for the end of December

Time to Put on Your Thinking Cap and Have Some Fun

Below is a printable sheet with the names of different Greek Goddesses and Gods but the letters for their names are jumbled up. Start out seeing how many you can unjumble without doing an internet search for the Greek Pantheon. When you have done all you can without help than use this general search for the Greek Pantheon to help you finish

Greek Pantheon

Please do not share your answers until Thursday to give everyone that wants to a chance to solve the jumbles on their own. Thank you and good luck. Yes, I am going to do this jumble by the same rules as everyone else. It should be interesting because I have not work very much with Greek Goddesses or Gods.
